Stamping 411 Challenge 170

I have decided that I really love cherry cobbler and always artichoke together.  I am really going to have to make some Christmas cards using this combination.
The card below uses these colors, but it is not a Christmas card, just an all occasion card I guess you could say.

If you look closely, you'll see that I used a strip of frayed fabric in place of a ribbon.  I am really digging this Deck the Halls fabric in case you haven't noticed yet (I just wish I could ink the edges. LOL!)  To get a strip all you have to do is cut a slit the width you want the strip to be, and then pull.  After pulling the strip, I frayed all of the edges with my fingernails.
It is really easy to do.

I got the layout for this card from this week's sketch at Stamping 411.

Altered Notebook

I have been dying to get my hands on some of the new fabric that Stampin' Up! now offers in the Holiday Mini Catalogue. The first assortment I ordered is the Deck the Halls bundle.  You get three coordinating designs that are 28" x 18"  each. You also get an instruction booklet that shows 5 projects you can create using fabric.

For my first project I chose to alter a composition notebook.  (I stocked up on them when they were on sale for twenty-five cents each.)
Below, you can see that I covered the notebook in one of the fabrics and used another to tear a strip to use as a ribbon.  I also used cardstock, Deck the Halls designer buttons, antique brads, and self-adhesive rhinestones.

I love Stampin' Up!s new fabric line.  You can tell by touching it that it is a rich, good quality fabric.  I can't wait to create more projects using it.

Flowers I learned to make at regional

I got to attend the Fort Worth regional convention not long ago and one of the things we learned to make are these ribbon flowers.  I have seen versions of these flowers before but not exactly like this.  You punch a circle with one of your circle punches( a circle cut out of sticky pages is best).  Leaving the ribbon attached to the roll you start twisting the ribbon and winding it in a circle on the punched out circle. (I should probablly include pictures.)  What I like about these flowers is that you can start them in the center of the circle or the outside either one.

Here is an extreme close-up.  You can see my cardstock circle showing.  I guess it is not too bad for my first attempt.  If you would like me to include a picture tutorial on how to make these let me know, and I will try because I am afraid my instructions I just gave you, make no sense.
To make this 6x6 page I use riding hood red cardstock and Love Letter designer paper.  I also used retired riding hood red ribbon and basic pearls jewels.

Another Cased Christmas Card

To create this Christmas card I used the stamp set, Come to Bethlehem.  I cased this particular lay-out from someone but can't for the live of me find it again.  I thought I had saved it to my favorites on stampin' connection but it is not there.  If this is your card please let me know, and I will give you credit.  I think the only thing I changed was the purple color.  It is navy, maybe, on the card I cased.

Anyway, like the advise I was given the key to this stamp set is to make sure your stamp pad is really juicy.  I inked up my elegant eggplant really well, and we had no problem getting a good impression when we made this card at my stamp-a-stack.

SAS continued

Here is another card that we created at last week's SAS. I cased this card from Susan Copp on Stampin' Connection (excellent resource for demos).  I even used the same colors that she used.  The main difference is the sentiment.  Hers is a birthday card and mine a Christmas card.  That just goes to show how versatile the medallion stamp is.

I love how the colors of this card are not traditional Christmas colors.  I stamped the medallion in crumb cake ink.  I think inked up the center of the stamp with soft suede ink, stamped it, and punched it out with the 1 3/4 scallop punch.  I then attached the punched out piece to the card front with dimensionals and added a rhinestone (119246) to the center.

SAS Christmas Card

Last Tuesday I had a Christmas card stamp-a-stack, and this is one of the cards that was made.  I cased it from jandjccc on splitcoast stampers.  She made hers with gold embossing powder on black, and I chose to use silver on night of navy.

I used three different stamp sets when making this card.  The sentiment is from All Holidays.  The ornaments are from Delightful Decorations, and the tree limbs are a tree stamp in the set Lovely as a Tree.

No Layers Cards

The Late Night Stampers' challenge this week is to make a no layer card-- meaning you can only use one piece of card stock.  I actually made two very, very similar cards and decided to show both of them.  I made two because I forgot to use my embossing buddy on the first one and therefore had stray embossing powder in places I didn't want it.
I started with very vanilla card stock on which I stamped leaves in versamark ink using the French Foliage stamp set.  After heat embossing the leaves and sentiment I sponged the entire card front with pumpkin pie ink.

This first card was the one I forgot to use the embossing buddy on.  It turned out ok after all.  I also intentionally sponged the ink on unevenly.

On this card I sponged the ink on more evenly over all.

Here you can see how thin the card is with no layers.
I really enjoyed making this card.  Just think how easy a card like this would be to mail with no layers to have to worry about.

I Love Leaves

I love trees and leaves, and I loved this card until I looked at it online and saw that my faux ribbon is crooked.   Oh, well as I tell my club, "See my mistake... don't do the same."
There are things I do like about this card.  I love the easy sketch I followed from Stamping 411.  I love the leaves and how realistic they look (expect to see more of this stamp set from me), and I love the fall colors that I used.  Oh, and I love the splash of smooch spritz over the card.
This card also meets this week's challenge at the Shabby Tea Room.

Where have I been???

I have been in Fort Worth, Texas attending my first ever Stampin' Up regional!!!!  I attended Friday's session and it was so much fun.  I have pictures including some with Shelli, but they will have to wait until I get home because I forgot my computer cord at home and we are staying another night in Texas to go to the Rangers/Yankees game tonight.
I do have to tell a funny story from yesterday though.  I met a girl named Bernie early in the day before the session started.  She and I shared a table with two others from Texas.  We had a really great time together, laughing and talking.  Well at the end of the day we were trading last names so we could find each other on Stampin' Connection, when Bernie mentioned that on SC she has to go by her name Mary.  I thought about that for a second and to make a long story short, Bernie and I had already met and had a discussion on SC.  What are the odds that out of all the people in attendence Friday, we end up sitting at the same table and hanging out together all day.  You would think that we planned it but we didn't.  Obviously, we were meant to meet.  And that is what Stampin' Up is all about... making new friends and building friendships.
Well thanks for stopping by.  I can't wait to share pictures I took and techniques that I learned with you!

Journal or Photo Album?

I love to create items besides cards.  This project could either be a small journal or a 4x6 album.  I bound two pieces of chipboard with vanilla cardstock with my bind it all.  The dsp is called Newsprint.  It is really good for giving a vintage feel to projects.
This journal/album qualifies for a couple of challenges.  It fulfills Challenge 85 at the Late Night Stampers yahoo group.  This group is open to demos and non-demos alike.  It is a great place to go for inspiration.
I also fulfilled the challenge at PaperTakeWeekly which is to use one of something and Paper Players which is to make anything of your choice.

French Foliage

I love fall.  I love the colors, smells, the activities.  I  also love trees.  So it is easy to say I love this stamp set, French Foliage.  The leaves look so realistic.  I'll be using this stamp set a lot.  You can find this stamp set in the Holiday Mini Catalog that goes live September 1st.
To make this card I used the sketch at Card Patterns

2-5-7-10 Box

I just love this little box.  I think it is so cute.  It is called a 2-5-7-10 box, and you can find the directions here.
I used at least 2 challenges to complete this box.  The colors came from this week's challenge at Our Creative Corner.  I had to make some slight changes in a couple of the colors, but they are basically all the same.  I almost forgot to use the color old olive, but remembered in time to use it as my ribbon color.  I really like these colors together.  They are old olive, riding hood red, daffodil delight, early expresso and very vanilla.  The two colors I substituted are riding hood red and daffodil delight.  They were supposed to be so saffron and cherry cobbler.
The other challenge I used was this week's challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs.  Their challenge was to use texture.  I added texture by distressing the edges of the layers of cardstock and by using a satin ribbon.

Thoughts and Prayers

Thoughts and Prayers is the name of one of the stamp sets used to create this card, and I could use your thoughts and prayers at the moment.  I have a dearly loved family member that was placed in hospice today, so I guess that is what influenced the making of this card.  The sketch for the card came from Stamping 411, but the sentiment and over all feel of the card are an example of what I would use in creating a card for someone going through a tough situation like I am.
